A SINGLE CENTERED PILOT STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF AN ANTI ACNE FACE WASH (PURAC BF P/41 AND ACNACIDOL BG), IN SUBJECTS WITH ACNE VULGARIS

Srirupa Pal, Pubali Sam

Abstract

Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin condition of the pilosebaceous glands. The study aims to ascertain the effects of the face wash in acne management. The skin oiliness and porphyrin percentile was analyzed in relation to clinical improvement of the subjects. 30 subjects were treated to twice daily application of the face wash. Assessments were performed before the treatment commenced and after four weeks for the porphyrin percentile and the skin oiliness. The percentage of improvement in mean porphyrin percentile was 13.17% after four weeks.

The result of the skin oiliness determination clearly showed that there was a reduction in the sebum content after using the face wash for 4 weeks. This study demonstrated a sebosuppressive effect and antibacterial activity of the face wash. Therefore the study of the results clearly indicates that Anti Acne Face Wash has an additive effect in acne treatment and can be used as an adjuvant therapy for management of acne.
