STRENGTHENING LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES: A DISCUSSION ON EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND WORKPLACES
Abstract
Leadership is often considered as an intrinsic trait. However, it is also true that given an enabling environment, it can be developed over a period of time. The immediate family, educational institutions (particularly schools) and workplaces play a decisive role in the development of leadership traits. This paper looks at certain factors which are at play in educational institutions and workplaces across our country that impact the leadership abilities of students and young employees. The author has taken into account the views of researchers and professionals in the area of education, management and sociology to give an accurate description of the prevailing scenario. The factors discussed in this paper include the role of student diversity in educational institutions, the impact of language of instruction in early education, group activities and team spirit, business practices and work culture in Indian organisations.
