SOCIO - ECONOMIC PATTERN OF SILK HANDLOOM WEAVERS’ – A SPECIAL REFERENCE TO TANJORE DISTRICT

Abstract


The success of society is based on the level of education of its members. The income of respondents is an important factor for assessing the social status of each member in the study area. A Silk weavers’ society promotes thrift and encourages savings there by aid in capital formation.  In this study the savings schemes classified in to four types namely, Savings and Security, Thrift deposits, Family pension, and Maranasahaya Nithi. The loan operations of silk handloom weavers’ co-operative society consist of granting short-term loans and cash advance on the basis of repaying capacity. The members also borrowed from other sources. The better the health of the individual, the better will be his productive capacity. In this study claim can be classified in to three types namely, inpatient claim, outpatient claim and No claim. The expenditure pattern of the respondents on food, clothing, children’s education, health, rent, interest paid electricity and mobile phone, and other expenses (including personal expenditure). A member who is satisfied with the Silk Handloom co-operative society would like to strengthen his relationship with the society by making use of the services of the society.
