POLITICAL PARTICIPATION OF YOUTH IN THE ELECTION FOR GOVERNOR AND DEPUTY GOVERNOR IN NORTH SUMATERA, INDONESIA

Abstract


Nowadays, educational institution becomes a facility for political socialization and education. Students can join and participate in an organization in their campus so that they can show their political participation and help them become leaders, speakers, and activists. The research used qualitative method by conducting in-depth interviews with the members of SAPMA (Student Association) of Pemuda Pancasila as the youth in Medan in order to find out their political participation in the election for governor and his running mate of North Sumatera in 2018. The result of the research showed that of SAPMA of Pemuda Pancasila decided to give support to only one governor candidate and his running mate by establishing youth volunteers, establishing communication and socialization in groups of youngsters for supporting the candidates they were going to elect, watching over the votes for the candidates in every ballot place, and watching over the number of votes gotten from the Medan KPU offices until the KPU of North Sumatera.
