ISOLATED TUBERCULOUS JEJUNAL STRICTURE WITH ASSOCIATED PORTAL AND SUPERIOR MESENTERIC VEIN THROMBOSIS - AN EXTREMELY RARE CASE

Abstract


Tuberculosis remains a deadly global health problem, especially in developing nations. Extrapulmonary manifestations are prevalent in these endemic areas and on the contrary, are usually limited to the immunocompromised. Abdominal infection is even more exceptional, which can be problematic to clinicians in view of its non-specific presentation and investigatory findings.

 

In this case, a 32 year old Indian male presented with a history of abdominal pain and vomiting of one month duration, and a past history of portal vein and superior mesenteric vein thrombosis. Enteroclysis detected dilated small bowel loop and an annular stricture in the jejunum. Histology of surgically resected segment made the etiological diagnosis of tuberculosis.
