Abstract

Surgical modality is considered as treatment of choice. We report a case of football size renal hydatid cyst in a patient presented with complaint of fullness over right side of abdomen for last 8 months and pain in right flank for last 6 months. A single intra-abdominal lump of size 13 X 15 cm present over right lumbar region extending to right hypochondrium and umbilical region which was non tender, soft in consistency. CT scan revealed a 16.9 X 15.8 X 19.9 cm lesion in relation to right kidney suggestive of hydatid cyst of kidney. Partial/complete cystectomy with partial nephrectomy was planned. However, during surgery we were able to remove cyst completely without undergoing nephrectomy. Post operatively IVP was done and it demonstrated bilateral functioning kidney. We present this case to illustrate the actual challenges and improvisation of a surgeon on table, during surgery.
