THE AUDIT OF LAP CHOLE FOR 10 YEARS IN NORTH INDIA

Kuldeep Raj Sarangal, Sanjeew Kumar Chowdhary

Abstract

Introduction: Lap chole in different hospitals & different states by same author for 10 years, selection of cases, conversion to open & morbidity & complications.

Material & Methods: This is a study of around 700 patients operated in nursing homes and tertiary care hospitals of 4 North Indian states in last 10 years.

Statistical Analysis: Out of 700 ( 630 [90%] ) were females & 70 [10%] were males. Average age was around 38 years with minimum of 16 years & maximum of 72 years. Average weight was 60 kg for females from 35 to 100 kg & 73 kg for males.

Results: All the patients recovered well with nil mortality & 0 major complication with conversion rate of 5% for females 20% for males.

Conclusion: Careful preoperative selection of cases & good dissection at calot’s triangle can reduce the morbidity & rate of complications. In any doubt it is better to convert it into open cholecystectomy at same time than open it in second sitting.
