CARE, SHARE AND ADAPTATION OF THE THAI MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY DURING THE GLOBAL COVID-19 PANDEMIC CRISIS

Sophana Srichampa, Amarjiva Lochan

Abstract

Thailand is a multicultural society with more than 70 ethnic groups, the majority of whom are Buddhist. From the beginning of 2020 up until September 2021, Thai people have so far encountered three waves of the pandemic which has greatly impacted the lives, health and socio-economic circumstances to support those affected, the private sector, comprising religious groups, NGOs and others have dedicated themselves to helping all those suffering, including animals. These noble volunteers are known as the “white worriors”. Several Buddhist concepts, namely change, the Four Noble Truths and the four subline states of mind, are applied in this analysis together with Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs. This Covid-19 crisis has demonstrated how co-operation among people in society can help overcome the difficulties experienced in such challenging times.
