Vishal Dubey, Ritesh Dixit

Abstract

Sitz bath is widely used in postoperative period in benign anorectal diseases. We performed our study in the patients of haemorrhoids from their immediate post operative period to find out the significance of sitz bath in post operative period. Study performed between the patients who took warm water sitz bath, normal lukewarm water sitz bath and without sitz bath in their post operative period up to one month. After one week in all the three groups, the majority of the patients had pain of moderate intensity, irrespective of taking warm or normal temperature or no sitz bath. After one month wound healing was complete in 26 out of 28 patients in group A (93%), 24 out of 26 in group B (92%) and 23 out of 26 in group C (89%). It was concluded that sitz bath is having minimal or no effect in either postoperative pain or wound healing.
