INCIDENCE OF CHRONIC PAIN AFTER INGUINAL HERNIOPLASTY: A PROSPECTIVE STUDY OF 95 PATIENTS
Abstract
Introduction: Chronic pain after inguinal hernia surgery is common and varies from 0% to 37%.
Aims and Objectives: To find incidence of chronic pain after inguinal hernioplasty: a prospective study of 95 patients.
Material and Methods: Study carried out at the department of Surgery of a tertiary health care center for 1 year duration. Total 95 patients of which 61 were operated for unilateral and 34 for bilateral hernia repair; were assed for the pain at the operated site by Visual Analogue scale.
Result: As time since operation increases no of the patients with Severity grade (7-10) of Pain were decreased. Chronic pain was observed more with open repair (4.25%) compared with laparoscopic repair (0%).
Conclusion: Number of the patients with Severity grade (7-10) of Pain were decreased with time. Significantly more number of patients with the open hernia repair were having chronic pain as compared to laparoscopic repair. Keywords
