Abstract

Introduction: This study is done to find correlation between anthropometric measurement (weight, height), Penile length, and external urinary meatus with prostate size in patients of BPH. The result of the study will help clinicians in assessing the prostate size in BPH with regard to anthropometric variables and urinary meatus.

Methods: This observational study was conducted in 105 Patients > 40 years with urinary complaints and were divided into two groups. Group A – Urinary complaints due to benign prostatic hyperplasia [BPH] (n=65). Group B - Patients with urinary complaints other than BPH (n=40).

All patients were subjected to complete clinical examination, height, weight, flaccid penile length, prostatic volume(PV) measurement & external urethral meatus[EMU] diameter by Vernier caliper.

Results: Total 105 male with mean age of 65.80 yrs(group A) and 49.48 yrs(group B)with mean PV was 13.40cc in Group B and 49.42 in group A( p - < 0.001) taken for study. Patients in group B were taller and their weight is slighty higher than group A. Flaccid penile length (p= 0.039) and EMU is significantly large (p= <0.001) in group A. 65 patients of group A (47 to90 years) showed PV is significantly increasing with age, height (p<0.001), weight (p = 0.012) and EMU(P=0.019) but increasing marginally with flaccid penile length.

Conclusion: Patients of BPH, those having increased height, weight, increased external urethral meatus size are associated with significantly large prostate volume and longer flaccid penile length is weakly associated with prostatic volume.
